A fiery parliamentary inquiry into the tragic plane crash that killed Malawi’s Vice-President Saulos Chilima descended into chaos on Monday after an explosive row erupted between furious politicians.

The Ad-Hoc Parliamentary Committee hearing turned into a dramatic showdown when Lilongwe Mude MP Mphatso Boti Phiri blasted suggestions that phones were the only items damaged when the aircraft went down in the Chikangawa forest on June 10, 2024.

Phiri hit back hard after another member pointed out that a victim’s passport had been recovered intact—questioning why the phones were reportedly ruined while other personal belongings survived.

Slamming the commentary as 'misleading', a protective Phiri warned the committee was leaping to premature conclusions before all the evidence had even been gathered.

 CHAOS IN ROOM

But in a scathing put-down, Committee Chairman Walter Nyamilandu turned on Phiri—publicly rebuking his colleague for airing the committee’s internal squabbles in front of the cameras.

The high-stakes hearing then reached boiling point when Dedza Kasina MP Joshua Malango launched a sensational intervention, aggressively stepping in to challenge the chairman himself!

Malango demanded that Nyamilandu stop the public dressing-down and respect Parliament's strict Standing Orders in managing committee disputes.

The sensational bust-up brought the crucial witness questioning to a screeching halt, exposing deep divides over how evidence and internal rowiness are being handled.

The inquiry continues as the committee desperately seeks answers into the tragic crash that claimed the lives of Vice-President Chilima and eight others.
