HTD Limited has thrown its weight behind Malawi’s football greats, donating K10 million to the Football Legends Association (FLA) ahead of the body’s high‑profile fundraising gala set for August 29 at Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
The donation, made during a symbolic presentation in Blantyre, was announced by HTD general manager Ziyaad Sidik, who said the car dealership wanted to “give back to the heroes who built Malawi’s football identity”.
Sidik said the support forms part of HTD’s corporate social responsibility and is aimed at motivating former players who laid the foundation for the country’s footballing success.
FLA member Leo Mpulula welcomed the gesture, saying the contribution will “go a long way” in strengthening the association’s operations and boosting morale among retired players who continue to inspire the next generation.
He said the upcoming gala — followed by the association’s annual general meeting — is targeting K250 million to support welfare programmes for the legends.
Founded in 2021 by board chairperson Jim Kalua, the Football Legends Association now boasts over 220 members, including some of Malawi’s most iconic former players.
The organisation provides welfare support, medical assistance, and community engagement opportunities for footballers who once carried the nation’s hopes on the pitch.
The K10 million boost from HTD is expected to energise preparations for the gala, which organisers say will be a star‑studded night celebrating Malawi’s football heritage.
With the fundraising target set at a quarter‑billion kwacha, the association is banking on corporate partners, fans, and football stakeholders to rally behind the cause.
HTD’s donation has already sparked excitement among supporters, many of whom say Malawi’s football legends deserve recognition and sustained support after years of service to the nation.
