Surveyors urged to go digital: Minister Chipungu tells profession to embrace technology as it shapes Malawi's future

Minister of Lands Chimwemwe Chipungu has challenged Malawi's surveyors to embrace technology and keep their professional standards high as the country pushes to modernise how land is managed.

Chipungu officially opened the 2026 Annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Conference of the Surveyors Institute of Malawi (SIM) at Sunbird Livingstonia Hotel in Salima.

The conference is being held under the theme "The Evolving Role of Surveyors in Driving Digital Transformation and Sustainable Built Environment".

It offers a platform for the profession to reflect on its future and its contribution to national development.

The minister encouraged surveyors to uphold the highest professional standards and to keep contributing to Malawi's development through:

Improved land administration

Chipungu, who is Patron of SIM, said he remains committed to supporting the advancement of the surveying profession.

He pledged to help create an enabling environment in which surveyors can contribute meaningfully to the country's development.
